Grading System

3  = Mastery (85-100%)
2 = Partial Mastery (70-84%)
1 = Needs Improvement (0-69%)

Class Discipline Procedures:
First offense: Verbal warning, reminder of expectations and practice if necessary.
Second Offense: Child moves their name stick to the yellow cup from green (second warning).
Third Offense Fourth Offense: Child moves name stick to the orange cup and misses some/all of recess that, or the next, day.
Fourth Offense:  Child moves their name stick to red and goes to the principal or a phone call home.

Attendance: Kindergarten is fast and furious; we learn and practice many things in a single day.  Also, much of our learning is hands on; therefore, it is difficult for students to make up many things we do in class.  Strive to have your child at school every day, even on short days.

Tardiness:  Your child will be considered tardy for school if they arrive later than AM – 8:30 or PM – 12:30 and will need to get a tardy slip at the office.   Please do not knock on outside doors by Kinder room once they are closed.

Kindergarten Homework

Skill Books are homework packets that give students a chance to practice concepts learned in class at home.  Skill books will be passed off  each week.  Students must pass off skills before going on to the next skill. Homework grade is based on how many skills they mastered during the term.   Skill books are to be kept in homework folder and returned each day so that volunteers may help pass off skills. This is a very important part of your child’s learning process. Please ensure you are working on skills each night.

Daily Reading: Your child needs to read ten minutes every school night.  You’ll record reading on the monthly calendar that I will provide for you and send back to school the last school day of every month.

Unfinished Class work will be sent home and must be completed, and returned, the next day.

Take Home Readers: Readers sent home every Monday and to be returned to school the next Monday (starting in Mid October.) for your child to read and master.

Words Their Way Spelling Sorts: Spelling sorts will come home every Monday starting in Oct.  Tests will be given Thursdays.  More info to come!

 Beach Kid Spotlight

Things to send back to school as soon as possible:
  1.  Beach Kid Spotlight page
  2.  Letters from each parent - A short letter from mom and a letter from dad telling your child things they love and appreciate about them.  We will read these aloud in class and then send them home.
      Things to send to school the Monday of your child’s special week:
  1. Poster - a poster celebrating your child to post “Beach Kid of the Week” bulletin board.  Posters can include a picture, pictures of things they enjoy, a decorated first name, etc.  Please no bigger than an 8.5X11 paper
  2.  Show and tell items - 3-5 memorable things from their life, any little thing of interest...  (like shells from the ocean because they vacation there or a soccer ball because they like to play that sport).
Book Orders will be sent home monthly and will be ordered and paid for online by you, the parent.   Ask about Secret Orders (orders that I will not tell your child about) for gifts or holidays.
